Koume-chan ga Iku!! / Here Comes Koume / 小梅ちゃんが行く!! TV (1999) [DVD]

Image
Raws are from this release .  Subs for episode 1 are by DOMO, translation checked by me and quality checked by WOWmd.  Subs for 2-12 are by loadtup, quality checked and retimed by me and WOWmd.  Both projects were in a pretty bad shape before: DOMO is essentially rebranded ARR (but at least he wasn't the translator himself this time) and loadtup's timings are all over the place, plus he's just chronically allergic to periods and onscreen signs (although I suspect he owes that to the dumb structure of his site), but to be fair his translations are accurate at least. Then again, the MC herself is speaking the thickest brand of Kansai-ben, so I couldn't TLC it myself even if I wanted to. Previously existing subs and raws, quality checked and put together, is all.  Extremely low effort release. It's as though I wanted to watch it myself and decided to give it a symbolic cleanup while I'm on it, plus some primitive typesetting. WOWmd also agreed to look at it later.

Nijuushi no Hitomi / Twelve Sets of Eyes TV special (1980) [LD + 16mm film scan] w/ Orphan

This is actually a double release. The main one by [Orphan] can be found here . The one I released under my own tag is 16 mm film scan, captured by Kineko Video and provided by MartyMcFlies.  The subs (retimed by me) are the same as in  [Orphan]  release of the LD version of the show, albeit with simplified typesetting because the image is a lot more jittery and this is meant to be a "side" release, a weird alternative for those few who could actually prefer this over the "main" LD version, because oh boy, this film had seen better days. The video is rife with film aging artifacts, most notably the weird blue flickering. Still, I think it deserves to be released because even with all the artifacts it looks considerably crispier than the LD and comes in genuine 1080p. Video is AVC, audio is PCM. TL notes:  The nickname children give to Ooishi - "Koishi-sensei" - is a parody of her name: Ooishi (大石) means "big stone" while Koishi (小石) means "s

[Orphan] Michite Kuru Toki no Mukou ni / Across the Surging Times (1991)

I've actually been wanting to do this movie ever since I first learned about it years ago.  When the first ever proper raw for it by Orphan appeared in May this year, I was pleased to discover that I was not alone in that.  The premises and posters are simply fascinating.  While the source book, Paradise by Suzuki Kouji, won a local award in 1991, it's not really quite as great, as its novelty qualities wear out rather soon, unlike the movie's. Still, I've read a good portion of it just to ensure that I don't miss anything while translating.  Nyaa | Collectr's post | DDL | Subs only | AniDB

Rainbow Across the Pacific Ocean / Taiheiyou ni Kakeru Niji / 太平洋にかける虹 OVA (1992)

This one has been in the backlog since December 2023, but now I've finally run out of patience with Ziusudra's QC and Shanghaied someone else into it.  RAWs: Unknown (more on that later)  Translation: Perevodildo  Quality Checking: True Noobow Gamer The video is what we concluded to be an HDTV rebroadcast recording, since there are no traces of a DVD/LD for this show. But even if it was aired in HD, it's safe to say that at least two layers of compression it's been through downscaled it back to 480p. How did it happen? Well, I found it on a certain streaming site. When I asked the uploader for the source, it turned out that he also snatched it from some Japanese guy's YouTube channel. As of December 2023, said channel was already terminated, so the trail goes cold there, and I had to settle for this video from VK. Still, even under two layers of compression, it blows previously available ARR's raws out of the Pacific Ocean. Kudos to Psychomorphosis for preservin
