Flying Legend of Mahjong / The Calling Dragon {麻雀飛翔伝 哭きの竜} / Naki no Ryuu OVAs

Image
That's it, folks. Collectr posted onto Nyaa the other one, three-episode 1988 OVA Mahjong Hishouden: Naki no Ryuu. That and the other one, I actually have something to say about.  Relevant notes:  The title (Naki no Ryuu) is a play on the mahjong action of "calling [tiles]," both "to call" and "to cry" are naki, though they utilize different kanji and the one in the title is that for crying specifically. At least that's the conclusion we've arrived to, manga translators kept it as "crying dragon" - I don't know what was their logic behind this, but in any case we decided on "calling" (as in I asked "is it 'calling'?" and muzu said "ye"). The other part of the title - Mahjong Hishouden - nobody in the world knows what the flying fuck hishouden is, literal translation is "flying legend" so I went with this. Needless to say, in this show, Ryuu neither cries nor flies.  Bandai version: E...

Super Zugan / スーパーヅガン TV (1992)

Raws:  WOWmd’s Amazon rip Based on:  /mjg/ repo subs , episode 1 by  8pin , further polished by us Translation check, typesetting: Perevodildo Mahjong translation check: Muzussawa It’s not in my habit to drop things like that, but this show proved to literal Kryptonite for me; I find the mere thought of working on it headache-inducing. I simply cannot work on something that glorifies nothing but vices and quagmire. Still, if you, yes you, think you can TLC it and un-retard the 4chan subs in my stead, go ahead and get in touch with us, because I wouldn’t mind finishing the show if I only have to do the painless parts, which is everything but the TLC, and muzu is just into depravity. Personally, though, I know that I’m doing society a favor by not bringing this atrocity to light. The history so far: In my latest desperate attempt at soliciting Muzu’s nudes, I let myself be led down a garden path and into another midjong show, because “How bad can it be,” right…? I had no id...

Kumo ni Noru / Climbing the Clouds / 雲にのる OVA (1991) [LDRip HEVC AAC]

Raw:  Piyo-Piyo Productions Translation & TS: Perevodildo Editing: Paul Geromini Quality check: True Noobow Gamer Another day, another Buddhist schlock in our work queue. This time, blame Collectr for giving me bad ideas. This translation would’ve been largely impossible without the manga scans, shedding light on original pronunciations and spellings of numerous names and Buddhist concepts here, 99% of which are borrowed from Chinese and are entirely inscrutable otherwise. That manga and the show are still garbage, though, so make no mistake—there’s a good reason why it hasn’t been subbed before, and why only Perevodildo had the folly to translate it. In a sense, it is Hiroshi Motomiya’s take on Japanese “Divine Comedy” (or “Jesus Christ Superstar” if that’s more your jam) and I believe you gotta respect the hustle, at least. It makes for a perfect B-movie, approved by both me and Paul, the certified trash enjoyers. You will find in me an inveterate atheist (as reflected by our...

RAW: WOWmd’s  VHSrip Translation & TS: Perevodildo Quality check: Anonymous As of me writing this, WOWmd already acquired what seems to be a better VHS copy of this show, so expect a .v2 sometime this year and feel free to give feedback on the subs. AniDB  |  Subs only  | Nyaa

Never Give Up / ネバーギブアップ Movie (1997) [VHS, AVC, FLAC] (Gakken Anime)

Image
RAW by  WOWmd Translation & typesetting by Perevodildo Editing by Paul Geromini For reasons yet unknown to science, some of WOWmd’s recent encodes only play in VaginaVision™️ mode in VLC, and some make it shit the bed with dropped frames. To properly enjoy this release, you’ll need some actually capable player, such as MPV. This is a Gakken (educational) anime, produced as educational material, and distributed in a very limited number of copies directly to schools on VHS. Needless to say, this never received any home release or any meaningful attention at all, therefore nobody, myself included, had ever heard of it up until now, and you won’t find this title in any database, even the release date is uncertain.  This website  says 1997,  this one  says 1998 was when they acquired it, so the 1997 release date seems plausible. The fact WOWmd managed to acquire it on VHS is a miracle in itself. And being a human rights awareness PSA, it’s probably one of the mos...

Ganbarist! Shun / Ganba Fly High / ガンバリスト! 駿 TV (1996) WEB-DL [576p HEVC AAC]

RAWs:  WOWmd’s WEB-DL Translation & typesetting: Perevodildo While this resub offers significant improvement over the previously available hardcoded crabsticks, it is by no means a definitive release. At least because it is, once again, one man’s work with little to no QC from Unowen. I know for a fact that I botched half of the gymnastics terms here, and misused the other half, all while being a clueless ESL. If you believe you can offer an improvement over this translation, be my guest. The video for episode 1 is sadly 480p, bitstarved and interlaced, it’s only advantage over the previously available RAWs being the absence of the watermark. Still, from episode 2 on, the video is 576p and with better settings, so it blows the  Gyao raws  out of the water. Episodes: How Come?! Tournament With Zero Practice! {なぜだ!?練習ゼロで競技会} Oh No! The Terrifying Vaulting Horse Experience {いやだ!恐怖の跳馬体験} With Guts! Hellish Handstand Battle {意地だ!地獄の倒立バトル} This is it! The Grand Backflip in ...

Manga Nihon Keizai Nyuumon Episodes 1-7

Translation and typesetting by Perevodildo Encoding and quality checking by WOWmd Quality checking by True Noobow Gamer The 7 episodes come in two files because that’s how they were arranged on the VHS tapes WOWmd bought, and I judged that rearranging them was too much of a pain. Read more about it on our  first release of it  if you really wanna know. I know we’ve released 1-4 previously… And before that, I released 1-2 separately, and even before that, I released ep 1 separately… Doesn’t matter now. The subs for 1-4 are largely the same, but I added typesetting, because apparently I can do that now. From episode 5 on, we have a new QC on board. Abbreviations and TL notes: • Throughout the series, the characters repeatedly call Yuki (Kenshiro guy) a “madogiwazoku” (literally “window side tribe”). This is a specific Japanese term from the bubble era, referring to the company employees that were once useful to the company, but because laying them off was considered unethical, t...
