I am sad to inform you that there’s a good reason why this special remained untranslated for so long. Shows like this make me actually appreciate Haikara-san more. Imagine every irritating, nonsensical, hackneyed element of every Shoujo, you’ve seen, then suck out what little originality it had, water it down, and squeeze it all together into a mawkish bubblegum-like feature-length film—and you’ll end up with Seito Shokun. It is mindboggling to me that the Japanese were for some reason hooked up on this series for over 42 years. Most of the Shoujo manga I’ve read is boring but pretty, most of the Shoujo shows I’ve seen are annoying but light; in comparison, Seito Shokun is straight-up cancer, devoid of any of the mentioned redeeming qualities, and the drawing in all of its sequels is ugly as sin. I kid you not, the level of writing this title has is somewhere in the ballpark of “People Die If They Are Killed.” I’m pleased to inform you, however, that Marty hated it too.
