Video: Batty’s Laserdisc, ripped and encoded by WOWmd. Original translation: R1 DVD subs, translated by Toshifumi Yoshida & Trish Ledoux, whoever that is. For this release, Perevodildo translation-checked, fine-timed to the new raw, and subbed the advert for some other Masamune Shirow’s OVAs included at the end of the disk. Marty Mcflies (LonelyChaser fansubs) quality-checked. I also included the official English dub for those of you mentally deficient, and unlike last time I didn’t even half-ass syncing it. This OVA is a massive parody of media of the time (1980s), sort of like Gintama of its time, but more incomprehensible, less funny, and primarily focused on video games (it was even serialized in Famicom Tsuushin [Famicom News] magazine, although past the first 2 volumes it became too expensive to pay royalties to the game right holders, so they turned it into a slice-of-life manga about the author). You may have never heard of this show or manga, but it actually spawned several games of it own, and its fandom in Japan is alive even to this day—the show’s characters...

All the characters’ names are puns or jokes in some other way: Fukuda Fukutaro (Japan’s Foreign Affairs Vice-Minister) has the same word in his name and surname, and that word means “Vice-Minister” Kibo Takamaru {希望 タカマル}—name means “increasing hope” Takamaru’s Father Kibo Koen {タカマルの父 希望 公園}—name means “supporting hope” King of Champon Kingdom—Zako Takanokami Kaodeka {ちゃんぽん王国国王 座高タカノカミ カオデカ}—“King” is spelled as reversed “Kingdom,” zako means “small fry,” takanokami means “high god;” kaodeka means “big face” Kirameku Mirai—means “glistening future” Kirameku Zugai—means “glistening skull” (he is bald) Yumega Al Zaemon {夢我アル佐ェ門}—means “at least have dreams” Yumega ...
