Pelican Road Club Caroucha / Club "Cockroach" / ペリカンロード クラブ・カルーチャ OVA (1986) [LD AVC AAC]

RAW https://nyaa.si/view/871928 Translation Perevodildo Quality check None Video used is Ukyuu’s 2014 rip from  this release . Song lyrics are cribbed from redbook’s scan of his LP, except for one insert that’s not in there. Some alternative titles for the show adapt “kurabbu karuucha” as “club culture,” but I have no idea where that came from, as the explanation Shigeru gives in the show is that “it means ‘cockroach’ in Portuguese,” which has been confirmed by our resident Brazilian girl, though she noted that it’s a rather uncommon word. The JP wiki, however, says that it was derived from the German word for “cockroach” which seems like bullshit. I wasn’t reading manga attentively enough to spot the exact moment where they came up with that name, so I guess we’ll never know for sure. At least the “Pelican Road” part of the title is more straighforward and is derived from the name of “Pelican Express” delivery service in the show. The OVA adapts the first 5 chapters of the source ...

Raw acquisition, editing Paul Geromini Encoding Anonymous Translation, typesetting Perevodildo Translation check sotoo On this perfectly ordinary day of a perfectly ordinary month, at the perfectly random UTC time, we present to you NHK’s “Shonen Drama Series: They Were Eleven.” I don’t know why we did this. I don’t know what to say about it either, the short version is “this movie is mid and the RAW is worse. Watch the anime instead.” The long version is that Paul saw a DVD for this on some auction, saw that it doesn’t have any rips yet, and bought it, god knows why. It lingered on his hard drive for some months, until I became so desperate for something to do I agreed to translate it. Sotoo then saw we’re working on it and expressed interest, since the NHK Shounen Drama shows are somehow 𝒂𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒄 to him (although I am personally too philistine to call a pile of garbage “aesthetic”). So there you have it. The first encoder we sent it to had this to say about the video: This ...

Isewan Taifuu Monogatari / The Story of Ise Bay Typhoon / 伊勢湾台風物語 Movie (1989) [VHS AVC AAC]

This is a special one. The movie itself is quite good and essentially “Papa Mama Bye Bye” done right. It’s one of the better documentaries we’ve done. But it’s also why the show itself is quite technical in nature and requires a degree of knowledge about Japan’s geography to keep you engaged while the countless events, occurring in various parts of the country, are hurled at you just to leave no impact because they’re but an empty sound to someone unfamiliar with the area. For that reason, the notorious “TL notes” here go beyond what you’d usually expect to help you understand the geography of events. Still, if you think yourself above that and just want to experience it “as-is,”  there’s an alternative, “Noteless” subtitles track. Now comes the sad part. The current rip is eye cancer-inducing, the video is a 374p reencode of a youtube upload of someone’s horrendous rip of their VHS recording of the movie, made while it aired on TV Tokyo (yep, not even a rip of the retail tape, whi...

Episode 6 notes: Vessel for manifestation of Buddha's true self  - actually, "発迹顕本" is another heavily loaded concept from Buddhism. Fully expanded, it amounts to something like "Casting off the transient body and revealing the true self of the original Buddha." The meaning of this passage is that Buddha lives in anyone, and through piety anyone is able to reveal traces of Buddha in himself - anytime, anywhere, even with a mortal body. More  here .            Another context-heavy scene. At least the show made an effort to make it clear what's going on, and I resounded that effort without resorting to \an8 TL notes. The guy here refers to the word 正しい / tadashi = correct, hence he wants to name the magazine "正教 / seikyo" = orthodox (literally "correct faith"). Toda, however, mistakes it for another "seikyo," namely "聖教 / seikyo" = Sacred Teachings (literally "saint faith"). And that's how they end up nami...
